There is only one you
This simple truth can sometimes be forgotten. It has be repeated often as a way to encourage others in their walk through life, but more times than not it carries a meaning of differentiation reflected on the personality and characteristics of others. It’s almost as if we use it solely to separate others from us. I think it’s time to shift the paradigm. This statement should be the foundation that separate us from others and not the other way around.
Being the driving force allows you to recognize your own abilities, your gifts, your skills, the blessings you’ve been given. When you take control of the wheel it’s much easier to be all you were made to be. Yes, examples, role models, mentors should all be part of the fabric of our lives. As Proverbs 27:17 illustrates, “as iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another”, encouraging and motivating us to grow in our lives. Others don’t define us but instead help us to find ourselves. Like following a map, others can symbolize the mile markers that help us know we are close, but were not there yet.
I see this reality playing out in my role as a husband, a father, a son, a brother and a friend. I see many of my fathers traits reflected in my actions. I also find myself emulating some of the people who have had a big impact of me. But at the end of each day, I also recognize I’m creating a new path. Setting a new reality for others around me. Being a mile marker for them and helping them in their journey. So it’s important I continue mine. Blazing a new trail. Being me!
